Mediterranean Cruise to Rome

My fourth stop on the cruise was Rome. I have been to Rome before on a cruise and went on a coach trip to the Colosseum the trip was called Rome on your own. This time I decided to just get a shuttle bus into the local town like I did in Florence. When I first saw the Colosseum and leaning tower of Pisa I was quite disappointed at how small they were compared to seeing images of the landmarks. They are still worth the visit if you are going to Rome or Florence.

In the local town were Italian clothing stores, fast food outlets, souvenir stores and lots of high street stores like Zara and H&M. There are plenty of places to stop for ice cream or a cold drink in the town.

At the top of the town is a large market mainly of fruit, veg and fish. I have been to lots of markets on this cruise already and there fruit is enormous compared to the UK’s fruit which I’m sure this is where we get some of our fruit from. I also visited a local supermarket to stock up on bottled water and kinder chocolate that we don’t have here in the UK.Ice Cream in RomeI also stumbled across this car in the street which was Hello Kitty and everything inside was Hello Kitty too. Before heading back to the cruise I had a walk along the ocean and came across the famous scene of the sailing kissing the women. This is the same giant statue that I saw in San Diego next to the Queen Mary and the aircraft carrier.Market in RomeRomeThe thing I love most about Rome is the food and how people are dressed. Of course people in Italy have great quality clothing stores with clean cut tailored pieces and along with fresh healthy home cooked food which is why most Italians are slim.Hello Kitty Car in RomeRome sailing kissing the girlAlong the ocean they were preparing for a festival and a fairground as there were lots of rides and games there along the front. It would be a great place to come at night time. The main attractions to visit in Rome are St. Peters square and Basilica, Pantheon, Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps, Pizza Navona and Forum. I would love to go back to Rome one day and spend more time there.

Have you been to Rome before or planning to go to Rome?
